    The Amazon Search team creates powerful, customer-focused search and advertising solutions and technologies. Whenever a customer visits an Amazon site worldwide and types in a query or browses through product categories, Amazon Product Search services go to work. We design, develop, and deploy high performance, fault-tolerant distributed search systems used by millions of Amazon customers every day. Our Search Relevance team works to maximize the quality and effectiveness of the search experience for visitors to Amazon websites worldwide.

    The Digital Relevance team focuses on several engineering areas for improving search quality and effectiveness for Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Prime Music, and Kindle. The relevancy improvements you make will help millions of customers discover the best content in our catalog of hundreds of thousands of digital content worldwide. You will work on problems such as predicting the popularity of new products, developing new ranking features and algorithms that capture unique characteristics, and analyzing the differences in behavior of different categories of customers. The work will span the whole development pipeline, including data analysis, prototyping, A/B testing, and creating production-level components for parallel data processing and for query-time functionality.

    Audible is one of the fastest growing categories within Amazon,
    and poses a number of exciting technical challenges ~ Audible Subscriptions, Audible Consumption, not currently modeled by search relevance algorithms. This role will focus on improving search relevance for the Audible category. You will analyze current relevance metrics, identify opportunities, evaluate new feature ideas offline, develop data pipelines to bring new features to production, run A/B tests and to improve customer experience for Audible category and beyond.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field (in lieu of degree, 4 years of relevant work experience).
    • At least 6 years of hands-on experience developing production code in C++ or Java, as well as high-level scripting languages like Python.
    • Intermediate, or higher, understanding of Machine Learning systems that run within a web based system/application.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s or PhD in a Computer Science and/or 2+ years of practical experience in a variety of Machine Learning (ML) modeling techniques spanning Supervised, Unsupervised, or Deep Learning.
    • Expertise in Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis.
    • Results-oriented with a strong customer and business focus.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate well and discuss complex topics with both technical and business audiences.
    • Able to thrive in a small team environment.
    • Strong sense of ownership with an entrepreneurial ‘think big’ mind-set.
    • Interest in digital entertainment.
