    Senior Systems Engineer - AWS AI Services / Machine Learning

    The Amazon Web Services team is innovating new ways of building massively scalable distributed systems and delivering the next generation of cloud computing with AWS offerings like Polly, SageMaker, and Rekognition.     A successful Engineer joining the team will do much more than write code and triage problems. They will work with Amazon's largest and most demanding customers to address specific needs across a full suite of services.     Have strong Linux & Networking Fundamentals. The ideal candidate will have deep experience working with Linux, preferably in a large scale, distributed environment. You understand networking technology and how servers and networks inter-relate. You regularly take part in deep-dive troubleshooting and conduct technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.

    Love to code. Whether its building tools in Java or solving complex system problems in Python, the ideal candidate will love using technology to solve problems. You have a solid understanding of software development methodology and know how to use the right tool for the right job.

    This position can be located in Herndon, VA or Seattle, WA

    Basic Qualifications

    • BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering or related field or 10 years equivalent work experience
    • 8 years Unix/Linux operating systems experience development, network protocols and hardware virtualization technologies
    • At least 8 years of system, network and/or application development experience
    • 8 Years of Scripting skills (e.g., Perl, Python, shell scripting)
    • This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. citizen and must currently possess an active Top Secret security clearance. The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph and satisfy other security related requirements.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Solid understanding of Linux performance tuning and problem diagnosis
    • Proficiency in more than one high-level scripting language (Perl, Python, Ruby)
    • Experience working in mission-critical, operations support
    • Expert understanding of DNS, DHCP, SSH, HTTP, TCP/IP
    • Experience with common configuration management solutions
    • Proven ability to operate effectively in high pressure situations and successfully handle multiple competing priorities
    • Strong ownership, urgency, and drive to launch services
    • Experience with service-oriented architecture
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent leadership skills and teamwork skills
    • Experience in communicating with product managers, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.
    • Architecture skills, knowledge of design patterns, and strong fundamentals
    • Experience in AWS cloud development stack
    • Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
    • · Experience with agile methodologies
    • Advanced understanding of DNS, DHCP, SSH, HTTP, TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP
    • System Engineering experience in the cloud
    • Strong process and procedure ownership experience for system audits
    • Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills
