Amazon is seeking an outstanding Senior Data Engineer to join the Kindle Reader Engagement Team. Kindle Reader Engagement Team has a mission to identify better ways to engage readers through our devices and apps.

The ideal candidate relishes working with extremely large volumes of data, enjoys the challenge of highly complex technical contexts, and above all, is passionate about data and analytics. He/she should be an expert with Data warehouse architecture, data modeling, data processing using distributed compute solutions and passionately partners with the data scientists, business analysts and other business stakeholders to identify strategic opportunities where improvements in data infrastructure creates out-sized business impact. He/she needs a passion for making data-driven decisions which will have direct impact on readers on Kindle devices or apps.

You should be comfortable in design and development of solutions using Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Spark on or off AWS. This position requires hands-on software development expertise used to ingest and process large scale datasets. He/she is proficient in at least one programming language. He/she should be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big (while paying careful attention to detail), excellent communication skills and enjoys working in a fast-paced and global team.

Basic Qualifications

· A desire to work in a collaborative, intellectually curious environment.
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
· 5+ Years industry experience as a Data Engineer or related specialty (e.g., Software Engineer, Business Intelligence Engineer, Data Scientist) with a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets.
· 5+ Years of experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
· Demonstrated strength in SQL, data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing.
· Experience in maintaining data warehouse systems and working on large scale data transformation
· Proven analytical and quantitative ability and a passion for enabling customers to use data and metrics to back up assumptions, develop business cases, and complete root cause analyses
· Strong verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to effectively lead and influence interactions with both business and technical team

Preferred Qualifications

· Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics or related discipline
· Experience with Big Data Technologies (Hadoop, Hive, Hbase, Pig, Spark, etc.)
· Experience administoring Tableau or other BI tools
