Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an Instructional / E-Learning Designer to join our Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Operations Training team in Ashburn, VA. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who has a passion and flair for creating web based training content The applicant must coordinate strategies and approaches to include instructional design, methods of training delivery, conducting training needs identification, plan development, designing and delivering training and project management.

Skills and Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design techniques
  • Project Management skills – Organizes and prioritizes work, manages multiple tasks and projects, and functions effectively as a self-directed leader of multiple initiatives
  • Knowledge of evaluation methodology (Kirkpatrick) and certification development
  • Demonstrated knowledge in creating performance models using the DIF analysis methodology
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including leadership, influencing, and relationship-building across functions
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Work well under stress, pressure, and deadlines
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written

  • Proactively develops, designs, and delivers global, scalable solutions to address the needs of Data Center Technicians and Data Center Electrical and Mechanical Engineers to meet both the short and long-term goals of the organization
  • Partners with key Amazon Web Services Infrastructure Operations stakeholders to ensure project timelines and needs are met and aligned to global business needs
  • Performs and interprets needs analysis and translates the findings into actionable items
  • Maintains advisory and consultative relationships with subject-matter experts that provide input to or deliver training and development
  • Seeks collaboration amongst Infrastructure Operations to share best practices and ensure alignment
  • Scopes, designs and develops instructor-led and web based content that is both engaging and informative
  • Converts PowerPoint storyboards into animated, interactive eLearning modules
  • Creates and updates internal processes and templates to minimize future content development time
  • Manages content source files in shared libraries
  • Project manages existing web based and instructor-led training content to ensure the content remains relevant and up to date with periodical version updates
  • Supports continual process improvement within the Infrastructure Operations Training Team to ensure we are building high-quality, scalable programs for our audience

  • Proven expertise serving as an Instructional Designer of eLearning courses or projects that demonstrate sound instructional principles, strategies and techniques
  • Creative, highly autonomous and responsive to working in a fast changing, ambiguous environment
  • Detail oriented and able to multi-task
  • Able to collaborate effectively with subject-matter experts to conduct needs/audience analysis, develop training objectives and course/product outline, design course/product content, and assessment items.
  • Compile and organize information, and writing and editing instructional materials to adapt classroom-based courseware and products, reference documents, and raw materials into clear, effective, interactive eLearning training
  • Experience using eLearning development tools (Captivate, Camtasia, Flash, Articulate Storyline)
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with subject-matter experts and managers; including the ability to explain technical topics to novices

  • Familiarity with Data Center industry standards and operations
  • Experience developing and supporting training needs for technical/IT related positions
  • Three or more years’ experience in an eLearning / Instructional Design role
  • Intermediate HTML and Flash skills
