Job Description

Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented lawyer to fill the position of Corporate Counsel to support Amazon's fast expanding retail business around the globe. This position, based in Beijing or Shanghai, will negotiate strategic commercial agreements, assist the business with product/service development initiatives, and interact with regulatory authorities on licensing and other compliance related issues. The candidate will be involved in and contribute to business buildup, have primary transactional drafting and negotiation responsibilities on deals, and provide ongoing legal counseling and contract interpretation for senior executives and other business team members, independently with minimal supervisions. These transactions range from standard contracts to complex, high-dollar-value agreements. The candidate also will be expected to participate in other Amazon legal projects as directed, including the administration and resolution of legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and government inquiries.

The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about technology, be curious about business, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. Competitive compensation based on experience and includes equity compensation.

Basic Qualifications

  • Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) from a leading Chinese or US law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in China.
  • A minimum of 6+ years of legal experience (with several years of experience at a leading global law firm and/or in-house at a major multinational corporation).
  • The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, enjoy working hard and being challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.
  • Must have ability to communicate orally and in writing, draft agreements and negotiate in English and Chinese.
