We are looking for a dynamic Machine Learning leader for a research science team on Amazon’s Ad Platforms team. In this role, you will lead a high performing team of scientists in the development of innovative and rigorous Machine Learning techniques that advance Machine Learning technology for advertising and convert to high impact solutions for the business.

Measurement and Data Science develops machine learning algorithms and high performance, petabyte-scale distributed systems utilizing big data and streaming technologies to report and optimize advertising. Our innovative engineers and machine learning scientists sit at the intersection of two vast data sources - leveraging e-commerce data to optimize advertising and measuring advertising impact on e-commerce. Our systems process billions of ad impressions daily from across the internet and Amazon site interactions to power all of Amazon’s advertising reporting and our display advertising algorithms for optimal audience targeting, real time ad ranking and bidding, and automated campaign optimization.

Major responsibilities:
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Hire and develop top-performing engineers
  • Develop and execute on project plans and delivery commitments
  • Work with business leaders to help define product requirements and with engineers to execute on them
  • Build and maintain world-class customer experience and operational excellence for your deliverables

Basic Qualifications

  • Here are some things we'd like to see in every candidate:
    • 7+ years of relevant engineering experience
    • 2+ years of people management experience
    • Experience with OOD and object oriented languages
    • Computer Science fundamentals (based on a BS or MS in CS or related field)
    • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as C, C++, C#, Java, or PERL
    • A strong track record of project delivery for large, cross-functional, projects

Preferred Qualifications

Here are some things that we'd prefer to see, though none is independently a requirement:
  • Experience handling gigabyte and terabyte size datasets
  • Experience working with distributed systems and grid computing
  • Experience working with advertising, retail or e-commerce data
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Excellence in technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts
