Job Description

The ideal candidate will have deep experience working with various mobile technologies (e.g., LTE, wifi, Bluetooth) and across mobile architectures, and conceptualizing, developing, and evaluating novel electro-mechanical systems that work seamlessly across them. This position reports directly to the General Manager of New Services Management and within Amazon’s Devices Organization.
The Senior Hardware Architect will be responsible for:
  • Evaluating and identifying improvements to system architecture with specific domain focus on hardware components
  • Identifying, defining, and evaluating new, innovative technologies across electronics, power systems, mechanisms, sensors, and embedded software
  • Leading the long-term strategy and direction for the technology platform, partnerships, and external relationships
  • Assisting with the creation and maintenance of a total system cost of ownership model to drive hardware design priorities
  • Evaluating and creating next generation product opportunities
  • Defining and documenting high level requirements and preliminary cost/benefit analyses for new product opportunities
  • Assist with the creation of project proposals for top new product opportunities, and presentation of these proposals to management for project kickoff go/no-go consideration
  • Handing off and assisting engineering managers, product management, and/or program management with the creation and conceptualization of approved new product development programs
  • Maintaining high level of communications with cross-functional team, partners, and the executive team

Basic Qualifications

  • BS/MS Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or similar field)
  • 7+ years of product development experience with emphasis on electromechanical automation equipment
  • Detailed system modeling experience
  • Experience working across various mobile technologies and networks
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, firmware and control systems design and development practices including engineering tools used for such efforts
  • Cross-functional leadership or experience in cross-functional efforts
  • Understanding of the business and experience selecting technology solutions to meet end user needs.
  • Understanding of business analysis (ROI, cost-benefit analysis)
