Amazon is seeking an experienced program or project manager to develop, manage, and grow a data effort to support our speech and language technology. S/he will become an expert in data processes such as transcription and annotation, manage to meet SLAs and data quality metrics, help support the transcription and annotation teams, maintain accuracy and throughput standards, and manage operational planning for future expansion. The Program Manager must have a passion for data, efficiency, and accuracy. This position may be filled in either Seattle or Boston. Specifically, the Data Program Manager will:
  • Manage workflow, escalations and effectively delegating workload across data teams and to leadership teams
  • Be the voice of the data customers across other Amazon Echo teams, proactively defining program requirements, tracking progress, surfacing risks & executing mitigation strategies
  • Assist with hiring and lead training of new team members to support their development
  • Contribute to the development and innovation of tooling developments, standard operating procedures, and expansion to new data areas
  • Collect and track metrics related to transcription and annotation processes, team accuracy and efficiency, and drive improvements in efficiency, throughput and cost
  • Continuously evaluate data tools and processes and offer solutions to ensure they are efficient, high quality, and scalable
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical and logistical issues

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a relevant field
  • Three or more years as a Program Manager or Project Manager
  • Experience working with various internal teams (including technical) to collect requirements, evaluate alternatives, and develop processes and tools
  • Experience with project specification, forecasting, and reporting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Experience leading large, multi-track, fast-moving projects
  • Excellent communication, strong organizational skills and very detailed oriented
  • Experience with Linux, query languages, and scripting languages
  • Experience working with speech or language data, including experience with language annotation or natural language processing
  • Practical knowledge of data processing needs and trade-offs
