The Government Cloud Solutions team is looking for an experienced System Manager with a strong focus on operations ownership to coordinate the work done across teams responsible for delivering Amazon Web Services (AWS) products to US Intelligence Community (IC) customers. This position is highly customer centric, working directly with the IC on operational requirements and security compliance and with AWS teams to plan and deploy new infrastructure, services, and features.

As a System Manager within Amazon, you create, deploy, operate, and scale large software systems. This opportunity requires excellent technical, problem-solving, and communication skills. You will be responsible for working with internal and external customers to understand their goals and requirements as well as coordination of project dependencies across the organization.

You should have a proven track record in recruiting and retaining top talent and excel in day-to-day people and performance management tasks.

Have a strong understanding of Software Development, Linux, and Networking Technologies. The ideal candidate will have past experience working as a systems or software development engineer. You will also have a strong level of knowledge in Linux. You will enjoy keeping your technical skills reasonably current, to the point that you can still contribute to architecture discussions. You regularly take part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.

Have strong project & product management experience. The successful candidate will create roadmaps for the team. This will include helping innovate and invent new value-add services layered on top of our existing services. You will need excellent technical project management skills to deliver product roadmap items as well as other cross-team projects. Experience with Agile methodologies is an advantage.

Know how to run a tight, lean, efficient operation. The right candidate will want to measure everything and be very data driven. He/she will excel at using metrics, monitoring, and alarming to measure and improve the operational processes and performance of their team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant, engineering experience, and at least 2 years of people management experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience operating mission critical online services
  • A solid grasp of software development methodologies and networking fundamentals
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication, prioritization, and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated technical leadership

This position requires that applicant selected be a U.S. citizen and obtain and maintain a TS/SCI US Government clearance with polygraph.

  • TS/SCI eligibility is not required to start; however, the applicant selected will be subject to a Single-Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified national security information.

  • Applicants with a current SSBI, SBPR, or PPR, may be eligible for crossover in accordance with ICPG 704.4.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. degree in Computer Science, MIS, CIS, or a related field
  • Experience operating and maintaining a 24x7 Internet-oriented production environment, preferably across multiple data centers, involving (preferably) at least hundreds of machines
  • Demonstrated success working across organizational boundaries, bringing together people with diverse perspectives and experience to find solutions
  • Must be able to see opportunities for improvement, take ownership, and closely work with develop teams to drive product improvement.

  • Strong business and technical vision
