Job Description

As the Manager of Software Development, you will be responsible for all software from development of mobile applications to the device level firmware production with the hardware team. You will design for scale and low latency, focusing on enabling a fantastic customer experience. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast paced start-up like environment and want to invent the future.

In the role, you will wear many hats in working on the software architecture, implementation including manufacturing production process and testing. You will build an efficient, effective and cohesive team to create a new experience and work with the team at large to ensure a functional and beautiful product with accompanying software service. To be successful you need to be highly motivated, understand how to solve problems and dive deep while delivering to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop the long-term strategy for your teams and translate that into an achievable road map/action plan
- Drive overall technical vision and architecture which enables us to grow and scale quickly
- Understanding how all elements of the system software ecosystem work together and developing engineering and testing approaches that fit the overall strategy
- Deliver updates at regular cadence within team and to leadership
- Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments
- Manage engineering resources who drive the day-to-day activities of the engineering team and establish best practices such as Agile/Scrum
- Management of departmental resources, hiring, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team
- Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
- 7+ years of industry experience
- 4+ years of people management experience, leading technical professionals (software developers, development managers, and/or technical program managers)
- A passion for people management and mentorship
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in Internet and mobile platforms - web based technology and mobile development (iOS/Android)
- Demonstrated technical leadership of both people and projects
- Superior analytical and problem solving skills are required
- Strong knowledge of testing methodologies and best practices
- Focus on peer mentoring, code reviews, architectural consultancy and teamwork

Preferred Qualifications

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
- Strong business and technical vision; candidate has shaped an organization or business unit in previous experience
- Active and recent experience with iOS and/or Android and/or HTML5 based application development and management of a customer facing application (engineering and product management / feature definition)
- A deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, and a track record of shipping software on time
- Experience managing and directing software testing resources such as QA Engineers, QA Technicians, and/or Software Developers with expertise in Test.
