Job Description

Amazon Global Compensation Programs Team is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to join the Compensation Analytics and Technology Team. This person will play a key role in developing world class analytics that drive HR and Company policy and practice changes across the global organization. An ideal candidate will have a strong passion for analytics in a complex domain in which creativity is required to identify and disseminate meaningful patterns in employee data.
This role requires a candidate with a strong technical background who writes efficient and readable code that is scalable and flexible to adapt to dynamic needs and changing requirements in the business question. You must be mindful of automation and reusability to ensure your projects don’t accrue technical debt. In this role you will interact and code share with other Business Intelligence Engineers, Data Engineers, and Economists. A successful candidate is eager to learn new tools and skills to contribute to the evolution of the technology stack.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with moderately large datasets in relational databases (Oracle, Redshift, Etc.) to support and create complex analyses.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to leaders through tables, visualizations, and brief papers.
  • Own the design and development of ad hoc and ongoing metrics, reports, and dashboards to drive key business decisions.
  • Contribute to the vision and evolution of our technology stack.
  • Use statistical methods to answer complex business questions across multiple markets.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an analytical area such as Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, or similar.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience including:
  • Knowledge and direct experience using BI reporting tools to produce actionable insights
  • Experience in gathering and defining requirements and formulating business metrics for complex reporting
  • Experience using SQL, and BI reporting tools with complex datasets
  • Extensive working knowledge of Excel for presentation to non-technical customers
  • Experience coding in R, Python, or similar

Preferred Qualifications

· The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong working knowledge of Systems Administration and application support.
· Experience with administering Cloud Computing Products e.g. Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Experience using statistical modeling or machine learning techniques for hypothesis testing or predictive analytics.
· Innovative collaborator who designs unique analytical tools and methodologies.
· Knowledge of fundamentals of database design and management.
· Experience with multiple BI platforms such as MicroStrategies, Tableau, OBIEE.
· Experience with Shiny web application framework.
· Graduate degree in statistics, economics, data science, computer science, or related.
