Amazon Web Services offers a comprehensive, end-to-end portfolio of cloud computing services, allowing customers to implement solutions for all stages of the big data life cycle.

Amazon Web Services is looking for Support Engineers with an affinity for big-data tools. We seek passionate engineers who can assist new and existing customers as they deploy and maintain their data within the Amazon Web Services Big Data product portfolio.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Science / Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in technical position
  • Experience with Hadoop (Cloudera), EMR, DynamoDB (Cassandra), or similar
  • Experience monitoring Hadoop cluster performance with Ganglia
  • Experience with JVM performance monitoring and tuning
  • Experience with Map-Reduce, Zookeeper, HBASE, HDFS, Pig, or Hive
  • Linux system administrator skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Linux system monitoring and analysis
  • Expert knowledge of Hadoop 1 & 2 architectures and administration and support.
  • Expert knowledge in Map-Reduce, Cascading, HBase, HDFS, Pig, Hive
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Customer service experience / strong customer focus
  • Strong analysis and troubleshooting skills and experience
  • Self-starter who is excited about learning new technology
  • Expert knowledge in Spark and understanding of DAGs a plus
  • Be able to perform Shell scripting experience with Chef or Puppet
  • Expert understanding of ETL principles and how to apply them within Hadoop
  • Be able to read Java code, and basic coding/scripting ability in Java, Scala, Python, Perl, and/or Ruby
  • Networking experience (DNS, TCP/IP)
  • Database experience (MySQL, Postgreql, Oracle)
  • Exposure to Virtualization (VMware, Xen, Hypervisor)
  • Prior working experience with AWS - any or all of EC2, S3, Data Pipeline, Redshift, RDS, DynamoDB, EMR
  • Exposure to security concepts / best practices
  • Expertise with IPsec, VPN, Load Balancing, Iperf, MTR, Routing Protocols, SSH, Network Monitoring / Troubleshooting tools
  • Experience managing full application stacks from the OS up through custom applications
