Job Description

Have you ever wondered what sort of systems and software power the world's largest e-Commerce catalog? At Amazon, literally, the whole world is our customer and this means our catalog is truly a 'global' catalog. What sort of systems do you build to host such a catalog and process millions of updates on the billions of items every single day when you know traditional database technologies just cannot handle the massive scale? How do you ensure that you serve up the freshest possible information to hundreds of millions of Amazon's customers around the world 24x7x365?
While you think about answers to the above, the next set of challenges that come with these are how do we tie such massive catalog updates to our customers? Did the new system we launched create a positive customer impact? Did the customer search experience become better?
We are a new team, 'Catalog Experimentation Platform' whose mission is deliver continuous innovations that matter to our customers. We want to hook ability to experiment and tie customer feedback directly into the Catalog systems so that innovation and ability to run experiments and learn from them does not need a new investment for any team within the catalog.
Now comes the interesting challenge. How do we build such a system and make them core to the catalog systems. Storage solutions that can scale to X times catalog data to support multiple experimentation concurrently. Want to wear your thinking hats to start experimenting? Key Responsibilities:
1. Contribute to the vision and architecture of the Catalog Experimentation Platform.
2. Strong coding and problem solving skills.
3. Ramp up on newer technologies quickly to solve massive distributed scale problems.
4. Mentor and guide junior engineers in the teams.
5. Ability to build and deliver a high quality product.
6. Influence cross teams and PEs' on the technical solution.
7. Excellent team collaboration skills.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or 4+ year relevant work experience
  • Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
  • Proficiency in at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as C++ or Java
  • Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience of delivering highly available, multi-tenanted, high volume systems would be definitely preferred.
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a highly iterative, agile, and open team environment.

  • You build the right product for your customers and pride yourself on delivering products on-time against deadlines.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills..

  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • A deep understanding of cross-functional multiple-team based software development.

  • A strong business and technical vision and the ability to translate these in business and technical approaches
