We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Systems Engineer. The responsibilities include contributing to development of infrastructure foundational services, writing scripts to automate testing and release processes, building and maintaining test fleets, performing functional and regression testing on new software builds, defining and performing stress/capacity testing, and managing/monitoring production software deployments. We are looking for someone who is good at system level scripting to help automate these tasks as we continue to move to fully-automated testing and releases. We want someone who understands how to scale fleets as well as dive deep into troubleshooting problems that arise.

The Infrastructure Team, within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure group, supports fleet-wide telemetry and software tools for the server platform for our innovative web service and e-commerce technology platforms. This platform is industry-leading in terms of frugality and operational excellence, and is critical to the success of the AWS business and the thousands of customers who use utility computing today.

Basic Qualifications

This position requires that applicant selected be a U.S. citizen and obtain and maintain a TS/SCI US Government clearance with polygraph. TS/SCI eligibility is not required to start; however, the applicant selected will be subject to a Single-Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified national security information. Applicants with a current SSBI, SBPR, or PPR, may be eligible for crossover in accordance with ICPG 704.4.

• A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

• 5+ years experience with a UNIX/Linux operating system

• 3+ years experience with a Windows operating system

• 2+ years scripting experience (e.g. Python, Perl, Shell)

• Experience with security best practices in server configuration, tool development, and access controls.

• Excellent troubleshooting skills

• Highly organized and able to coordinate with other team members

• All interested candidates must be prepared to work on-call.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of VCS (git, mercurial, svn).
  • Understanding of AWS technologies (
  • Experience deploying or managing servers in large-scale, geographically diverse environments.
  • Operational knowledge of common enterprise switching and routing platforms.
