Job Description

We are looking for a smart and passionate person to join our Browse Taxonomy Team as a Taxonomist I. This person will help build and develop an intuitive and comprehensive navigation structure to optimize product discovery when searching and browsing on our site. In this role, you will have the opportunity to directly and significantly impact the customer experience by making it easy and fun to shop for products on Amazon.com. As a Taxonomist I, you will have the opportunity to participate in designing and editing our customer shopping navigation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and design customer-friendly navigation experiences to organize our extensive product selection
• Collaborate with peers and advise business partners on taxonomy and metadata solutions to aid in improving customer product discovery
• Independently manage and deliver small and medium sized projects
• Participate in team operational excellence programs
• Work with a global team of taxonomists to support process and site improvement efforts

Basic Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (or similar discipline); equivalent professional experience may be substituted
• Proven taxonomy design judgement
• Ability to translate business use cases into good taxonomy design
• Proven skills in querying large datasets
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects and communicate clearly with partner teams
• Passionate about website usability with great instincts for improving customer shopping experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 to 2 years of practical experience in taxonomy development
• Experience in E-Commerce or Technology organizations preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly understand complex processes and communicate them in simple language
• Technically strong; fluency in Unix-based systems and programming skills a plus
