Would you like to be one of the leaders of a team that is solving new business challenges through innovative technology? The Team:
Amazon Books is a brick and mortar store that offers a curated selection of books and an array of Amazon devices. It is a magical experience that combines the best parts of a neighborhood bookstore with Amazon.com’s low prices and the expertise of passionate, knowledgeable staff who tailor their approach to the unique needs of each customer.
The team is building brand new Product Search and Discovery solutions for the Amazon Books customer. We will help customers discover the products they would like faster and enable them to make a purchase they will be delighted with. Customers are asking questions like “Do you have it in the store?”, “Which store is it available in?”, “What would you recommend for me?” To give them the answer, we need to use innovative technology to identify where the customer is physically located and search through millions of records while maintaining low latency. We use Amazon’s massive amount of data to personalize the customer experience and connect their online and offline presence.
This team owns the backend for cart, checkout & TRMS risk evaluation for Amazon Book Store and the invisible checkout for the Amazon Go store. While you’ll be able to use existing Amazon systems when possible, you’ll be working on hard challenging problems that most likely have no off-the-shelf solutions within Amazon, and most likely haven’t been solved anywhere else in the world to the requirements we need. The Role:
You will lead the technology team that is behind the invisible checkout at Amazon Go Stores and the core checkout platform behind the point of sale systems in Amazon Books stores.
On our team, we are entrepreneurial, wear many hats, and work in a highly collaborative environment that feels more startup than big company. As a Software Development Manager, you will help solve a variety of technical challenges and mentor a team of talented engineers. Your team will invent, design, develop, and deploy highly scalable, reliable, and distributed new features. You'll work with a various core languages and technologies including Java, Linux, PostGre, and AWS Services.
You will take on challenging, novel situations every single day and given the size of this space, you’ll have the opportunity to work with product team to define appropriate CX for pre-checkout and checkcout operations in Amazon Go & Amazon Books store. You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that’s higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems that, frankly, haven’t been solved at scale before - anywhere in the world. While we use existing Amazon systems when possible, you’ll be working on interesting problems that most likely have no off-the-shelf solutions. Along the way, we guarantee that you’ll learn a ton, have fun and make a positive impact on millions of people.
You'll need to be comfortable building prototypes, challenging assumptions, completing design and architectural reviews, and thinking of creative ways to solve problems.
