Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a passionate, technical, senior public relations expert to join its global PR team in Seattle to drive communications and PR activities around its global infrastructure and datacenter operations. Today, the AWS Cloud operates 44 Availability Zones within 16 geographic Regions around the world, with announced plans for 14 more Availability Zones and five more Regions in China, France, Hong Kong, Sweden, and a second AWS GovCloud Region in the US. AWS is consistently expanding its global infrastructure. AWS datacenters are world-class, providing highly-reliable, massive scale operations to millions of customers every month. Additionally, AWS has made a long-term commitment to achieve 100% renewable energy usage for its global infrastructure footprint and is making progress towards this goal. At the end of 2016, AWS exceeded its goal of 40% renewable energy and has set a goal to be powered by 50% renewable energy by the end of 2017.
The Sr. AWS Global Infrastructure and Datacenter Operations Public Relations Manager will be responsible for the strategy and execution of the PR plan and all external communications around AWS’s global region expansion and operations. The role will closely with the AWS energy, datacenter operations, Amazon corporate sustainability, and public policy teams to develop strategies, plans, messaging, and announcements that will drive a drumbeat of positive press coverage for AWS infrastructure. The PR Manager will work on a range of activities from planning events around new AWS Regions or wind and solar farms, to writing press releases and blogs and reviewing written materials on datacenter operations, to building media relationships with reporters and publications that results in positive press coverage, and more. The SR. PR Manager will also work on communications about our AWS infrastructure, including evolving our external storyline about AWS’s infrastructure leadership and working with the global AWS infrastructure team and regional PR leads on plans and announcements for new AWS Regions.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is comfortable turning highly technical details into consumable messaging and storylines, and is willing to roll their sleeves up and jump in where needed to support a wide range of communications activities. The candidate will have knowledge of and experience in the datacenter industry, an understanding of datacenter technology/operations, be passionate about how technology is changing the world, have prior media relations experience, and have an eye for detail. He/she will also be a successful writer who can write and edit press releases, blogs, web and other content, and provide strategic counsel to a variety of internal stakeholders and external third parties on communications related to AWS energy and infrastructure.
The role is based in Seattle and requires periodic international travel.

- Provide strategic PR counsel on AWS global infrastructure, datacenter operations, and energy communications for internal stakeholders
- Drive strategy and execution of AWS global infrastructure and datacenter operations’ PR and events
- Develop and manage relationships with media, resulting in positive press coverage
- Work closely with third parties such as network providers, ISPs, energy leaders, NGOs, and wind/solar farm operators to successfully drive communications about collaborations with AWS
- Write and edit press releases, blogs, web content, and other written materials
- Work collaboratively with US and global teammates on AWS Infrastructure Region announcements
