Job Description

A broad and customer-relevant product selection is one of the key pillars that drives the Amazon Retail flywheel. Ensuring we have the right products in our catalog and that they are available to ship quickly to our customers is essential to our success as a business. Our largest Retail organization is seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist to support a series of new programs to improve the way we think about and manage this selection. This role will have a direct and significant impact on our ability to surprise and delight our customers, drive topline growth, and meet our profitability goals. It will have a real and lasting impact on our customers and our company.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and will have the ability to take large and complex analyses and distill them down to the most relevant findings and recommendations. This will be a highly visible role, and candidates will need to be able to communicate their findings verbally and in written form to senior executives. He/she should be experienced in using big data to root cause problems, model solutions, and implement change.

The Sr. Data Scientist, Retail Selection will initially focus efforts in three areas, in partnership with a Sr. PM and various tech teams: (1) Forecasting and purchasing new products (includes deciding which new products to prioritize and buy first); (2) Evaluating buying across the catalog to maximize the customer experience (including how to decide which slower moving tail product to buy into); and (3) Driving the buildout of new technology tools and the improvement of existing ones to optimize business performance.
