Job Description

Amazon Payment Products is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to develop and lead a customer analytics roadmap. You will join our team of marketers, machine learning scientists, data engineers, software developers and product managers who build our marketing automation program.

The Business Intelligence Engineer will assess the downstream impact of customer actions and interactions with our marketing and products. They will lead measurement and optimization of marketing channels - including channels across Amazon, within Payment Products, mass media and display ads. They will assess promotion performance of both acquisition and engagement offers. Precision measurement of marketing programs will lead to optimized targeting, improved content and efficient promotional spend. You would advise the business on the relative effectiveness of channels and promotional offers.

In this role, you will execute a customer research agenda to track awareness and learn how customers perceive our product brands. You will lead insight generation to understand the behavior and perceptions of our customer segments. To achieve this goal, you will define research methodologies and your own project plan. You will use the key insights learned to influence our business strategies.

This is a Seattle-based role with global scope.

Basic Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Operations Research, or related field.
  • 5+ years applied statistics experience
  • 2+ years of experience using SQL
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts and solutions to all levels of the organization
  • Examples of successfully defining methodology and executing to meet a business objective
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills to work effectively and influence with both business and technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience with marketing mix optimization, promotion analysis, pricing, or similar data science applications.
  • 3+ years experience with constrained optimization and related techniques (e.g. hard/soft constraints, linear/quadratic programming, branch and bound, etc) in real world applications.
  • Working knowledge of a major programming language like Java, C/C++, Python and statistical modeling tools such as R, MATLAB, SAS or SPSS
  • Proven ability and good intuition for finding meaningful and non-trivial patterns in large datasets
  • Desire, ability and experience mentoring engineers and managers on data modeling concepts
  • Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Operational Research, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science.
  • Write very high quality code that is robust and easy to maintain
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, OS and distributed systems
