Amazon is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Software Development Manager to join the Kindle Content business. The Kindle VERITAS team delivers high quality, desired, and appropriate content to readers by building content risk analysis and mitigation technology, partnering with other content processing teams to leverage and adapt our tools and services via a common framework. The Software Development Manager of this team will be responsible for managing the team’s roadmap, working with diverse stakeholders to deliver the right things at the right times, managing the day-to-day of the engineers, and hiring to grow the team. You will own the relationships with product managers & the business teams, and, because of the team’s unique position, will have a driver’s seat to actually steer which new initiatives Kindle will launch.

The ideal candidate will have a background in computer science, have an affinity to being a leader, have experience running software teams with Scrum, and experience owning a product roadmap.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing software development teams
  • Minimum 8 years total software industry experience, including hands-on development and/or team management
  • Experience in OOP (e.g. Java, Ruby, Python, C#, C++), web development (AJAX, JavaScript, HTML, CSS), and designing highly scalable systems
  • Full lifecycle software development team management experience, from inception to delivery, through production operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques
  • Experience processing text, images, audio, and/or video
  • Event based architecture experience.
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Experience with the Scrum methodology
  • Ability to design software that can run in the cloud and handle Amazon-scale traffic
  • Quickly adapt to new development environments and changing business requirements
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both written and orally
