We are expanding the senior product and technical leadership to ensure our strategy and organization maximizes the historic opportunity we have to deliver on the future of video entertainment. This new leader will be responsible for all playback related services and media delivery. Playback related services include all playback related APIs, DRM license vending services, playback policy management. Media delivery includes CDN management/integration, QoS insights and playback optimization. Although the platform will be built centrally, there will be local media delivery teams in strategic locations globally, based on Amazon Video’s presence to support a region for local media delivery, operations and optimization. The regional team will be responsible for locale specific optimizations including QoS analysis, CDN support and identifying locale specific innovations. This leader will obsess in continually raising the bar in improving Amazon Video streaming experience for our customers.
The leader needs to be an operationally and technically deep, customer experience visionary who is as equally at ease at driving excellence in process design as in technical solutions and product definition. This person needs to be proven at leading a large team and will lead a team of around 50 when hired (and will grow significantly after) with influence over large engineering team outside with partners. – we intend to have the world’s best playback experience on the largest selection of devices in every locale where we operate. We are currently live in around 200 countries. To achieve our objectives, we will need to continue to improve our QoS by continuing to innovate in the backend delivery and optimization technologies, in all regions taking into consideration the regional constraints while achieving significant additional efficiencies to make our quality goals cost effective.
Overcome network constraints
– while the Amazon Video business continues to grow and reach customers in different locales, we are constantly challenged with network constraints in locales. To achieve our overall quality objectives for our customers, we need to continue to innovate and deliver the best quality with the constrained network and identify business areas where we can partner to deliver the best experience.
Focus and Deliverables for first 12 Months
As we expand our service into around 200 countries, innovate new technologies and optimize our delivery services to provide the best experience for customers over an unreliable network. While, we have an excellent streaming experience for customers, the leader will drive innovation and implementation of new technologies to further improve our experience not only for Video On Demand content, but also for Live content, globally.
