Job Description

Amazon's International Technology Team is building a team to define, design and develop exciting new products and expand Amazon's reach globally. Part of our vision is to ensure 100% Unicode compliance across the entire Amazon stack by making platform level changes, and providing developers tools and guidance to migrate to Unicode, such that other teams can provide a native experience for all Amazon customers (buyers, sellers and advertisers) worldwide, on any Amazon website and on any device, and this native experience is equivalent regardless of language. As we move forward and learn more, we’ll identify opportunities for other platform level changes that enable Amazon to seamlessly launch secondary languages on existing marketplaces, or create a new marketplace when and where needed.

We are looking for experienced developers with strong architecture and design skills. In this position you will be part of the team that supports Amazon.* launches in new markets, drives changes to support multiple languages and markets, and improves the international shopping experience.

You should be comfortable diving deep into technical architectures, development and functional requirements. The ideal candidate should be able to quickly identify and design solutions that work with all core components of the Amazon infrastructure. The goal is to accelerate our time to market in new marketplaces.

Basic Qualifications

5+ years experience building successful production software systems.
BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
Experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility tradeoffs.
Experience developing service oriented architectures and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability.
Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as C/C++, C#, Java, and open-source technologies (Linux, SQLite, OpenGL, Spring, Hibernate).
Good in technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of system performance methodologies along with hands on empirical monitoring.
Strengths in coding, data structures, algorithms, Object Oriented design, multi languages and security fundamentals.
Demonstrated ability to be self-driven and achieve stretch goals in an ambiguous, highly innovative and fast paced environment.
Expertise in delivering high-quality, innovative applications.
Strong desire to build, sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
Excellent written communication and verbal agility are strong assets.
Experience in international and multi-cultural environment is a strong plus.
