We build the Amazon app for iPhone and Android phone and we need a Support Engineer who will be an unrelenting advocate for our customers. We are a small team with a big impact - we own the mission­ critical systems that empowers developers from across Amazon to deploy their features to customers.

More than 72 percent of Amazon customers worldwide shopped using a mobile device during the 2016 holiday season. Shopping on the free Amazon mobile app grew by 56 percent this holiday, worldwide. On Cyber Monday, Amazon customers worldwide purchased about 46 electronics per second on a mobile device. On Cyber Monday, Amazon customers worldwide purchased about 36 toys per second on a mobile device.

As a Support Engineer on the Mobile team, we need you to help support this growth and scale by diving deep into complicated technical problems and drive improvements across the app. You will be required to drive investments in engineering excellence by following up to ensure defects are fixed at their root cause.

You will work side-by-side with the world-class Amazon engineers who build the iOS and Android apps. You will fix bugs and take on coding tasks to build tools that help diagnose system issues and automate their resolution. You must possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills. You must be a passionate advocate for our customers as well as an effective collaborator with your peers. You will drive the creation of standard operating procedures and operational play-books.

Experience building, testing and debugging Android and iOS apps is preferred but not required. You must be Customer Obsessed, be Curious and possess the grit to learn new things every day.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience debugging and testing in at least one modern object oriented language such as Objective-C, C++ or Java
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language such as JavaScript, Python, Perl or Ruby
  • Excellent English language written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and a proven documentation methodology

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years professional experience in software development
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience in web technologies such as JavaScript and HTML5
  • Experience building complex mobile applications on Android and iOS platforms that have been successfully delivered to customers
  • Experience delivering low-latency, consumer-internet-scale web services operating in a 24x7 environment
  • Experience with Cordova, React or other hybrid mobile app frameworks
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
