Job Description

Kindle instant preview and "Look Inside The Book" provide a great low friction, performant, and consistent book preview experience for our customers anywhere on the Web. Customers don’t have to sign up, sign in or download anything to begin reading.

We are looking for an experienced and talented web development engineer to be a key driver for the next generation of books reading experience on the Web and to help expand its charter to new territories.


In this role:
  • You will lead the design, implementation and delivery of successful large-scale critical and/or complex features.
  • You will develop high quality, maintainable, and robust code, often in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Perl and JSP, that function well across browsers.
  • You will utilize user interface design patterns to solve business problems with highly accessible and usable web applications.
  • You will interface closely with internal and external customers to quickly drive new products and new features.
  • You will guide and mentor junior team members and establish the model of excellent web development methodology and best engineering practices.
A successful candidate will have a firm grasp of building performant and scalable web applications and have a passion for operational excellence and customer impact.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of Web development experience
  • Proficiency using modern web development technologies and techniques, including JavaScript, AJAX, HTML5, CSS, Responsive Design, web services, etc.
  • Experience developing AJAX interfaces with AJAX libraries and frameworks (e.g. DOJO, JQuery, etc.)
  • Experience developing web-based user interfaces for mobile and desktop
  • Experience creating scalable, high performance web sites or web applications
  • Knowledge of web frameworks like Spring, Tomcat, and ASP.NET

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MVC frameworks like Spring desired
  • Experience in building fast, fluid, beautiful user experiences and driving growth in consumer websites
  • Passion for diving into data and discovering trends in user engagement
  • Experienced with Agile methodologies and Scrum
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor other software developers to maintain architectural vision and software quality
