The AWS Intelligence Initiative-AI² is hiring for a rare opportunity working with some of the brightest engineers and technical leaders, while breaking new ground in the U.S. Intelligence Community by delivering agile software services and infrastructure.

The AI² program will offer you the opportunity to
  • Consult with, and gain knowledge from the top engineers at Amazon about our innovative products and other public AWS offerings like S3, EC2, and CloudFront.
  • Discuss radical new approaches to automate operational issues.
  • Design and build the operational scalability that sustains the platform's remarkable growth
  • Master at AWS Services platform diagnosis, response, measurement, and automation.
  • Deep dive to root cause a customer issue, or investigate why a metric is trending the wrong way

You'll know how to drive automation and excellence into every aspect of building, deploying, running, and scaling our gigantic cloud services, and believe that we are only scratching the surface of what is possible.

You should be an engineer who is focused on developing internal systems written in Python, Java, C or a similar language. You also have a comfortable understanding of Linux, networking and the cloud, and experience running and maintaining a 24x7 Internet-oriented production environment across multiple (preferably hundreds) of Data Centers.

This position requires that an applicant selected be a U.S. citizen and obtain and maintain a TS/SCI US Government clearance with a Polygraph. TS/SCI eligibility is not required to start; however, the applicant selected with be subject to a Single-Scope Background investigation (SSBI) and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified national security information. Applicants with a current SSBI, SBPR, or PPR, may be eligible for crossover in accordance with ICPG 704.4.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Math or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 3+ years experience in systems engineering, operations, technical support, and the maintenance of large-scale systems.
  • Highly innovative, flexible and self-directed.
  • Ability to think big and help innovate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD in Information Science / Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
  • Understanding of distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, continuous delivery and DevOps
  • Experience maintaining high-performance, highly available and scalable distributed systems.
  • Experience with scripting and automation.
  • Knowledge and prior use of AWS services.
  • Strong ownership, urgency, and drive to launch services
  • Experience with a modern programming language such as C, C++, or Java
  • Deep understanding of scalable computing systems
  • Good working knowledge/experience on highly distributed virtual environment, networking, s/w build and deployment process.
  • A solid grasp of networking fundamentals, preferably including hands-on experience with load balancers, switches, routers, etc.
  • Familiar with the challenges surrounding efficient operations and failure mode analysis in large complex distributed systems
