    The India Consumer Business (ICB) Technology team builds products and services that solve unique customer needs in Amazon’s fastest growing marketplace. We are a multi-billion dollar business with a huge potential to grow in a trillion dollar market.

    Our team is looking for highly motivated individuals to help deliver the next great innovations to product search on Amazon.in. This position is based in our Seattle office.

    As a Senior Software Development Engineer for Search, you will be helping millions of customers every day to quickly find exactly what they were looking for and discover products they didn’t even know Amazon carried. Your improvements to the product search engine will include tailoring search for local languages and marketplaces, using advanced techniques and tools to mine PBs of data, and running experiments to detect important areas of improvement and measure success. You will be working closely with international teams of extremely bright and talented people all over the world, both in business and in technology. The software you develop, supported by industrial scale development tools, will integrate smoothly and efficiently into one of the largest code bases in the world and will run in data centers world-wide. By joining us, you will help to build up local expertise in a small, but rapidly growing close-knit team of engineers from a wide range of different backgrounds.

    Our team is responsible for many different areas, including improvements to search results and search ranking, language-specific search features, spelling correction, auto completion and query intent recognition. We employ a number of exciting technologies, including machine learning techniques and large-scale distributed systems. We are looking forward to including your knowledge and specific skill set into our team to help us tackle all these challenges - and more.

    Your areas of responsibility include:
    · Help define and create new search features
    · Run data analyses and experiments to identify room for improvement to prioritize and drive change
    · Collaborate closely with remote teams (US, Japan, Europe and China) on global projects, including site visits
    · Mentor more junior engineers on best practices and support their development
    · Handle technical search requests from local teams and liaise with the business to develop solutions which best meet our customers’ needs

    Basic Qualifications

    · Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field, advanced degree preferred
    · Fluency in oral and written English a must. Fluency or proficiency with other European languages is a plus
    · Effective communication skills to interact with all level from VPs to developers
    · Domain expertise in one or more of the following fields: Information Retrieval, Data Mining, Computational Linguistics, Machine Learning
    · Ability to handle multiple tasks and deliver them on time, exhibiting a high degree of proactive “hands-on” thinking and acting
    · Ability to deal with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment where every change affects the shopping experience of our customers world-wide
    · Ability to work in a diverse team, both locally and remotely
    · 5+ years professional experience in software development
    · Development experience with an object-oriented language (Java, C++) and a scripting language (Perl, Python)

    Preferred Qualifications

    · Work experience in the search industry, online retail industry, ideally in an international environment
    · Hands-on experience with analyzing truly large amounts of data, including defining and running data collection experiments
    · Development experience on Linux in C++ and Python
    · Development experience with cluster computing environments (Hadoop/Spark)
