The Alexa Shopping group is seeking talented and experienced leaders to design and develop Natural User Interface (NUI) shopping experiences and algorithms in Seattle. What you will work on: You will lead technically a team of talented engineers to define and implement components responsible for providing artificial intelligence-based, personalized and predictive user interaction experiences for our customers. Your team will build and operate massively scalable services while also developing delightful app experiences. You will be working closely with multiple product managers and engineering leaders from partner teams in Amazon Retail.

What we are looking for: As a Software engineer for the team, you will take a a proactive role building new components using state of the art technology and stitch those together with a number of Amazon systems. You should be proactive in ramping up in new areas, creating prototypes and eliminating risk, be able to iterate fast and deliver high quality results. You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that’s higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems. You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and you’ll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon. Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s (or above) Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 3+ years professional experience in software development
  • Proficiency in, at least, one modern programming language such as C, C++, Objective C, or Java
  • Expertise in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis. The ability to produce bullet-proof code that is fault-tolerant, efficient and maintainable.
  • Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) best practices and project planning/execution skills including estimating and scheduling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs
  • At ease working in both a research and production environment
  • Comfortable challenging assumptions and thinking of creative ways to tackle problems
