Job Description

Amazon’s classification team is looking for a world class Machine Learning Scientist to lead and implement Extreme Classification. Think about classifying Billions of products in 16 different languages at a millisecond speed to a frequently changing class hierarchy- all of this without very clean training data and a very high precision requirement. The classification team is defining new frontiers in machine learning based classification technologies. We serve the buying and selling customers to have a great experience while listing or finding products in the Amazon catalog. We improve Amazon.com's user experience by solving tough problems and by constantly inventing new techniques to auto-classify items based on unique text processing techniques.

You'll work on a variety of problems related to the document classification, ranging from innovative use of naive bayesian to Vowpal Wabbit to Deep Learning to Word2Vec. Our projects involve working on a variety of tasks that involves solving challenges in machine learning, information-retrieval, search relevance, natural language processing, massive scalability, storage solutions, high throughput and low latency website facing distributed services. You'll invent algorithms for improving recall of classification algorithms with high accuracy constraints.

Basic Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics or in another highly quantitative field
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency in object oriented programming in Java, Python or Scala programming in a Unix environment.
  • Strong OO Design, Data Structures and Algorithm skills require

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a highly scalable, distributed environment preferred.
  • Results oriented person with a delivery focus
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Domain expertise in ONE OR MORE of the following fields:
  • Big data and Distributed processing
  • Information Retrieval
  • Data Mining
  • Natural language Programming
  • Machine Learning
