Identity & Tax Services owns the identity and account information for all users of Amazon's ecommerce Platform, whether they are buyers, sellers or web services developers. Every aspect of our business interacts with our systems, if our systems are not up and running the company stops, and if we're not rapidly delivering new, easy to use features the whole company slows down. We're at the intersection of can never go down, and need to move at agile, internet speed. We're the hub of Amazon's massive, worldwide service-oriented architecture.

We are also responsible for the tax calculation platform, we provide the core services that calculate the accurate amount of transactional taxes (sales tax and VAT) on Amazon. We thrive on providing the correct tax amounts to the customer at order time, and make sure audit records are stored safely to meet tax law requirements around the globe. Our challenges include staying on top of the complex and ever-changing global tax rates and laws as well as computing calculations correctly and quickly, thousands of times a second, and each one needs to be right.

We are looking for software engineers who thrive on complex problems and relish the challenge of operating complex and mission critical systems under extreme loads. Our systems manage hundreds of millions of records, and responds to millions of service requests per minute. Do you think you are up to the challenge? The successful candidate is expected to contribute to all parts of the software development and deployment lifecycle, including design, development, documentation, testing and operations. We're looking for people who are smart and can get things done, though the following skill sets provide a good foundation for a quick ramp up to being productive in our Java, Linux and Oracle-based environment. Basic Qualifications

- 3-5 Years of experience
- Bachelor's Degree and/or Master's degree in Computer Science (or relevant equivalent)
- Proficiency in Java or C++ in a Linux or Unix environment
- Familiarity with Ruby, Perl and SQL

Preferred Qualifications

Experience building highly scalable, high availability services
Experience in real-time analytical systems and machine learning
Experience dealing with performance, memory and I/O

The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader, builder and operator. He/she should have experience leading or contributing to multiple simultaneous product development efforts and initiatives. He/she needs to balance technical leadership with strong business judgment to make the right decisions about technology choices. He/she needs to be constantly striving for simplicity, and at the same time demonstrate significant creativity, innovation and judgment.
