Job Description

Amazon Lumberyard is a free AAA game engine deeply integrated with AWS and Twitch – with full source. The Lumberyard team aspires to help game developers create the highest quality games, engage massive communities of fans, and connect their games to the vast compute and storage of the cloud.

We’re just getting started with Lumberyard. We have an excellent team with long tenure building some of the industry’s most respected games, but we are still growing fast and have many positions left to fill. We’re looking for pioneers who can imagine and deliver world-class technology for tomorrow’s most celebrated games. We’re looking for the best people in the industry to join our team of veterans. If you’re excited about the opportunity to invent and build with the entire sandbox of Amazon’s ecosystem, including AWS and Twitch, we want to talk to you.

As an Engineer on our core engine team, you will collaborate with artists, platform partners, and other engineers to chart our technology road map and deliver on it. Your ambition is to empower content creators and developers to deliver the revolutionary next generation of real-time interactive experiences. You are capable both of solving difficult, low level performance, device, rendering, and platform problems, as well as inventing high level solutions to entirely new classes of problems in uncharted technology waters.

As a Graphics Engineer on our core engine team, you will collaborate with our game teams to deliver cutting-edge engine technology on a variety of platforms:
The Role:
  • Be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced graphics technology.
  • Research cutting edge rendering techniques and algorithms, and drive practical adoption and implementation of them on the team.
  • Drive design and architecture decisions that result in strong balance of performance, flexibility, and maintainability.
  • Write a lot of high performance, highly maintainable code.

Basic Qualifications

Basic qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, working on multi-discipline teams.
  • At least 1 released real-time 3D game or application on which you were a key contributor in graphics/rendering.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals in design, algorithms, and data structures.
  • Strong knowledge of DirectX 11/12, OpenGL, Vulkan, or Metal.
  • Strong 3D math skills.
  • Advanced software engineering skills, including the ability to write performant, maintainable, and robust code in C++.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively on shared projects with designers, artists, testers, and other developers.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications
  • Ideally at least 1 shipped real-time 3D PC/Console titles
  • Knowledge of industry tools such as Maya, 3DSMax, Z-Brush, Mudbox
  • Expertise in shader languages
  • Deep experience with graphics performance profiling and optimization
  • Lumberyard, Unity, Unreal, CryEngine or other 3D game engine development experience
We offer excellent pay and generous stock plans, great benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401k with matching, and more. Relocation is available for qualified candidates.
