Job Description

Amazon AI is seeking an experienced program manager to develop, manage, and grow a data effort to support our human language technology initiatives. They are an expert in data processes such as transcription, translation and annotation, manage to meet SLAs and data quality metrics. They will help support transcription, translation and annotation teams, maintain accuracy and throughput standards, and manage operational planning for future expansion. The Program Manager must have a passion for data, efficiency, and accuracy. This position may be filled in either Palo Alto, CA, Seattle, WA. Specifically, the Data Program Manager will:
  • Manage workflow, escalations and effectively delegating workload across data teams and to leadership teams
  • Be the voice of the data customers across other data science and machine learning teams, proactively defining program requirements, tracking progress, surfacing risks & executing mitigation strategies
  • Assist with hiring and lead training of new team members to support their development
  • Contribute to the development and innovation of tooling developments, standard operating procedures, and expansion to new data areas
  • Collect and track metrics related to transcription and annotation processes, team accuracy and efficiency, and drive improvements in efficiency, throughput and cost
  • Continuously evaluate data tools and processes and offer solutions to ensure they are efficient, high quality, and scalable
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical and logistical issues

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Linguistics, Computational Linguistics
  • Three or more years as a Program Manager or Project Manager in Data Acquisition or Language Resource Management projects
  • Experience working with various internal teams (including technical) to collect requirements, evaluate alternatives, and develop processes and tools
  • Experience with project specification, management, forecasting, and reporting

Preferred Qualifications

    • Advanced degree preferred
    • Experience leading large, multi-track, fast-moving projects
    • Excellent communication, strong organizational skills and very detailed oriented
    • Experience with Linux, query languages, and scripting languages
    • Experience working with speech or multilingual language data, including experience with language annotation, machine translation or natural language processing
    • Practical knowledge of data processing needs and trade-offs
