The Alexa Shopping Speech and Language team is seeking Research Scientists who will partner with technology and business leaders to build new state-of-the-art algorithms, models and services that surprise and delight our voice customers. As part of the Alexa Shopping team you will leverage finite-state and ML techniques to create and put into production models that deliver advanced Natural Language Understanding (NLU) capabilities and human-like dialogs to enable unique and complex voice shopping experiences.

Basic Qualifications

  • Masters or Ph.D in Computer Science or Language Science
  • Strong technical credentials, with at least 4 years of experience working in ML, speech recognition, natural language understanding, computer visions etc.
  • Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment and complexity analysis.
  • Strong personal interest in learning, researching, and creating new technologies with high commercial impact.
  • Strong Analysis best practices. Writing detailed reports with little or no guidance from higher level research scientists.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in evaluating different existing technologies required for the solutions
  • Designing novel approached whenever available solutions are not suitable to the business problem
  • Effectively analyzes integration risks to a project
  • A track record of communicating well with software engineers and non-technical leaders in speech technology
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, including an ability to effectively collaborate with research and technical teams, and earn the trust and influence senior stakeholders.
