All team members, including the manager, will be on the same schedule. The Workforce Technology team will be chartered to build high-visibility, enterprise-wide solutions that Amazonians can use to manage employee lifecycle data and make critical business decisions. These solutions will be the heart of workforce planning for one of the largest and fastest-growing companies on earth.

If you’re an engineer who is in a reduced schedule, can think big and wants to build workforce solutions for the current and future leaders of Amazon, then the Workforce Technology team is a great fit. Note that reduced-schedule employees will have on-call responsibilities as needed.

Creating reliable, scalable, and high-performance services and architectures require exceptional technical expertise. Work in our platform will provide the opportunity to contribute to a complete vertical stack of SOA based systems with multiple user interfaces. You will own decisions from design to rollout and see the results of your efforts.

Senior Developers in this position will use a variety of mainstream and open source technologies like Java, Linux, Javascript, AWS, as well as other in-house Amazon secret sauce. You will play a leading role in determining the direction of our platform. Team members are expected to have strong object-oriented design and programming skills. Some scripting, SQL and data modeling is helpful.

Basic Qualifications

· 7+ years industry experience designing and building software tools, applications, or back-end multi-tiered distributed systems.
· Demonstrated proficiency with Java, C++, or similar modern programming languages
· Solid expertise in data structures and algorithms
· Experience with relational and non-relational databases such as Oracle or DynamoDB
· Obsession with quality, operational excellence, and customer experience
· Strong problem solving and analytical abilities
· Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to work in a team environment
· Experience and willingness to mentor more junior engineers and help them develop their skills and leadership abilities
· Experience designing, building and deploying scalable, highly-available systems

Preferred Qualifications

· BS/MS/Ph.d in computer science or a related (engineering, mathematics, statistics etc.) technical degree.
· Experience taking a leading role in building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customer
· Strong object-oriented design and coding skills (preferably Java on a *nix platform)
· Experience with building practical machine learning systems
· Knowledge of Perl or other scripting languages
· Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and databases
· Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
· Ability to think abstractly and deal well with ambiguous/undefined problems
