Job Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS), a leader in cloud computing, is looking for a talented Applied Scientist to help revolutionize the way we sell to and serve customers using big data and analytics. In this role, you will join a team of Data Scientists, Business Analyst and Software Developers building and putting into production the next generation of predictive models and tools aimed at helping customers succeed.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Partners with engineering to productionize end-to-end model training and prediction workflows
  • Builds highly scalable and efficient tools for modeling tasks
  • Builds reusable tools to assess data quality and detect anomalies in data
  • Builds automated tools for repetitive modeling tasks such as data extraction, feature selection and model performance tuning
  • Understands business goal and metrics to be optimized, and maps them to scientific goals and metrics
  • Reports status of project progress in timely and accurate fashion, using available metrics and evaluates technical risks
  • Diagnoses root cause of complex model performance problems
  • Collaborate with internal resources to gather, curate and build data sets needed to successfully construct the targeting mechanism and evolve the program for continuous improvement.

Basic Qualifications

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with:
  • At least MSc. (PhD preferred) degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Maths, Applied Maths, or related field
  • Experience leveraging Software Development and Machine Learning
  • 3+ years in Software Development, Recommendations Systems, or similar
  • Expert in one or proficient in more than one more major programming languages (C++, Java, C#, C, FORTRAN, Perl/Ruby, etc.)
  • Strong technical skills in Artificial Intelligence
  • Strong mathematical background
  • Proficient with mathematical programming libraries (R, Matlab, Python)
  • Experience using complex data structures and algorithms

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Big thinker that can take broad visions and concepts and develop structured plans, actions and measureable metrics and then execute those plans.
  • Excellent communications skills including, presenting, editing, and writing as well as accuracy and attention to detail required.
  • A fast-thinking, high-energy individual who can demonstrate a “find a way to win” attitude and sense of humor while working with a wide range of personalities will thrive in this role.
  • Experience evaluating and making decisions around the use of new or existing tools for a project
  • Ability to make the right trade-offs between schedule, resources and scope in order to deliver on a project
