A high quality product catalog is one where every record describes a unique product with a complete, structured, accurate and correctly normalized set of relevant facts with relevant relationships to other records. Our vision is to make Amazon’s product catalog the best quality product catalog. With a high quality catalog as the foundation, we can provide our customers with the best product discovery experience and empower them to make informed purchase decisions quickly. What makes this problem hard is the scale of the catalog (more than 3 billion products growing at 50% annually), heterogeneity (multiple languages and variety of product categories), and the evolving nature of data pathologies driven by millions of data providers offering varying degrees of data quality. The Catalog Systems team is looking for a Product Manager-Technical Products (PMT) to drive the long term vision of ensuring the accuracy of our massive product catalog. To tackle this challenge, the PMT will leverage their experience in cloud computing, big data analytics, machine learning and crowd sourcing to build a suite of systems and services that will proactively identify catalog quality problems, fix them at scale, and measure the impact of these fixes.
The primary role of a PMT is to assume end-to-end product ownership over one of our technical products. These products might be hardware offerings, software, or technical services. PMTs will be expected to dive deep into the technology from both a product and customer perspective. To succeed, a PMT needs to have technical acumen and a passion for technology. A technical degree is not a requirement. From Day 1, PMTs will be given ownership of large products, the autonomy to think strategically and make data driven decisions, and the ability to drive significant transformative innovation. Over their careers, successful PMTs will be exposed to multiple businesses/products, and will grow into senior level managers who independently run large business segments and organizations. PMTs work in various organizations across Amazon, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Appstore & Games, Digital Media & Marketing, and Kindle Device.
