We are looking for a talented attorney to support our rapidly growing and evolving Retail, Operations and Seller Services businesses. You will serve as the primary lawyer responsible for counseling the business on a broad range of regulatory and compliance matters, working as a member of the senior leadership team and with other members of the legal department, and managing a team of attorneys and paralegals. You will work directly with the business and product compliance groups, serving as lead counsel on a broad range of regulatory issues and commercial matters, including in the areas of product manufacturing, environmental impact, food safety, product safety, international trade, hazmat compliance, workplace safety, security, social responsibility and sustainability. Principal duties include providing day-to-day advice on regulations, monitoring and advising the business of upcoming regulatory changes, developing and improving compliance policies and procedures, and working cross-functionally with technology teams to implement automated solutions.

The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, enjoy working hard and being challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment—particularly in ambiguous situations. A mix of law firm and in-house experience is a plus. Compensation is based on experience and includes equity compensation. Some travel, domestic and international, will be required.

Basic Qualifications

  • 15 or more years of legal experience, including at least 5 years of regulatory or compliance experience with corporations, law firms, or government agencies
  • Experience leading legal teams, including developing talent
  • Experience managing a large number and variety of mission-critical projects and meeting deadlines
  • Juris Doctor and membership in good standing in at least one state bar is required; and
  • Some travel (domestic and international) required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on project management experience, including excellent organizational skills, the ability to manage a large number and variety of mission-critical projects, working independently and often in ambiguous environments
  • Sound and practical business judgment as well as common sense
  • Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams
  • A team player and consensus builder with great people skills and a good sense of humor who can effectively and efficiently collaborate and build relationships with attorneys and business clients at all levels throughout the organization
  • Highest standards of ethics and professional integrity
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated proficiency in working closely with and advising senior executives of an organization
  • Experience in crisis management and response
  • A mix of corporate law firm and in-house experience is a plus
