The Verticals group is a division of self-service performance advertising products that own business critical components of the rapidly growing advertising ecosystem at Amazon. The mission of our group is to deliver unique customer and advertiser experiences across amazon categories that require differentiated experiences. It is still day-1 and we are starting on the books store with the importance on fueling the authors and publishers’ ecosystems.

As a senior software engineer, you will lead the conception, design and development of software services and website stacks that entail engaging creatives, cross-screen placements, targeting, optimization, relevancy and advertiser experiences. You will be building brand new distributed software applications using cloud services and amazon proprietary technologies to deliver these unique customer and advertiser experiences. You will frequently interface with teams across Amazon; discovery, retail category, traffic generation, vendor management and analytics among many others. Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, related field or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of hands-on software development experience
  • Proficiency in at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as Java, C++, or C#
  • Experience with object oriented design, distributed systems and service oriented architecture
  • Strong CS fundamentals with data-structures and algorithms
  • Strong sense of ownership, bias for action, urgency, and drive

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passion for building new products in a fast paced, team-oriented environment
  • Experience taking a lead role developing complex software systems that have successfully been delivered to customers
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs and product strategy
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing and operations
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior software engineers in all aspects of their engineering skill-sets
  • Experience using cloud based products such as Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Experience with scripting in Python and/or Perl
  • Working experience with Unix/Linux
