Job Description

The Amazon Browse Classification and Discovery team is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead a team in Seattle working critical services powered by Machine Learning. You will lead a team of Engineers and work with Scientists to create and deliver models into production. You will help build a robust infrastructure for ML that can drive classification of products with a high precision and scale to new marketplaces and languages.

Imagine leading research inside of an Amazon team that is always looking to deploy creative solutions to real world problems in product discovery. Your research findings are directly related to Amazon’s Browse experience. Your team will build solutions for automatic detection of misclassified items in the ever growing Amazon Catalog. Your team will build applications ranging from analyzing books and identify its genre, understand music beats and movies, ingest images, text and all the unstructured attributes in the Amazon catalog to drive true understanding and classification of problem at scale.

We are looking for an amazing Software Development Manager who can turn a group of Machine Learning Scientists and Smartest of Developers to produce best in class solutions for product discovery. Your primary customers are Amazon shoppers who would thank you for correctly identifying products in our catalogs across countries and languages.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field
  • At least 6+ years of experience building successful production software systems. and/or developing large scale web applications
  • 2+ years of people management experience
  • Expertise in OO Design, Data Structures and Algorithms
  • Experience developing service oriented architectures and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced/Masters/PhD in Computer science with related work experience
  • Proven track record of architecting and building highly scalable, distributed systems
  • Results oriented person with a delivery focus
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • 5+ years of experience in building and retaining top talent
  • Prior experience in building infrastructure for ML and Natural Language Processing
