We're looking for an outstanding Research Engineer who combines superb technical, research and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively. This person must be comfortable working with a team of top-notch developers and collaborating with our research teams.

In this role you will develop, implement and test control system algorithms for small UAS. The ideal candidate will have fundamental knowledge of control systems design and analysis with some practical real-life implementation experience. An aerospace background or physics-based modeling experience is required. The right candidate will have had exposure to aerodynamic design and/or software and simulation.

Export Control License
This position may require a deemed export control license for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Placement is contingent on Amazon’s ability to apply for and obtain an export control license on your behalf.

Basic Qualifications

  • Masters’s Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Strong fundamental control theory base
  • Ability to model and understand physics-based dynamics
  • Experience with aerodynamics and simulation
  • Experience with hardware/software integration and real time communication
  • Strong mathematical/statistical fundamentals
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language
  • Expertise in path planning

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Experience with building and testing control systems on small UAS
  • Experience with system identification and adaptive control
  • Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers at scale
  • Knowledge of software engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle
  • Experience in communicating with management, as well as technical and business teams to collect requirements, describe product features and technical designs
