    As a Principal Solutions Architect you'll be a technical leader for the Government Cloud Solutions group. You'll help establish technical standards and drive overall technical architecture and engineering practices. You'll work on the team's hardest problems, building high quality, architecturally sound systems that are aligned with our business needs. You'll think globally when building systems, ensuring AWS builds high performing, scalable systems that fit well together. AWS Principal's are pragmatic visionaries who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions. Your expertise is deep and broad; you're hands on, producing both detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs.

    The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader, builder and operator. You'll have experience leading or contributing to multiple simultaneous product development efforts. You'll be able to balance technical leadership and savvy with strong business judgment to make the right decisions about technology choices. You'll strive for simplicity, and demonstrate significant creativity and high judgment.

    Basic Qualifications

    • 15+ years of relevant, broad engineering experience and executive level presence
    • 5+ years of experience as the lead technologist/architect for a major product or service
    • Repeated success leading architecturally significant projects from inception through launch, including communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and produce technical designs
    • Demonstrated expertise in system-level design, and experience with web services and service oriented architectures
    • Experience mentoring/training the engineering community on complex technical issues
    • Computer science fundamentals (OO design, data structures & algorithms, problem solving)
    • A Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics
    • This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. citizen and obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Strong written and verbal communication
    • Master's Degree in Computer Science, MBA or related field · Experience supporting the US federal, state, or local government as well as the US military
    • Strong understanding of US Federal Mandates, Security, Standards and Compliance for designing large scale Cloud Computing Solutions
    • Ability to synthesize requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and facilitate engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines
    • Maturity, judgment, negotiation/influence skills, analytical skills, and leadership skills
    • Familiarity with software processes, web services, multi-tiered systems, workflow modeling, systems testing, and enterprise application integration
    • Domain expertise in one or more of the following: Security, Compliance, Testing, Software Development, Networking, and Operations
    • Intermediate knowledge of computer networking concepts and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines to scope, schedule, and deploy new features
    • Experience with big data systems, such as Cassandra, Hadoop, MongoDB, etc.
    • Experience with Agile engineering practices (continuous integration, TDD, etc.)
