Job Description

We’re looking for technical leaders for the largest cloud storage service on the Internet! The perfect candidate will be an experienced people manager who also possesses a mix of depth in Development Operations, Networking, Systems Engineering, and Customer Obsession. As a Systems Engineering Manager on the Simple Storage Service (S3) Operations team, you will work on mission-critical infrastructures, tools, and processes that enable our systems to scale at a rapid pace. You will be hiring, developing, and leading a team working on the world's finest parallel distributed storage service, and others. Investigate and create new systems for scaling development and production. Be sharp and impressive with your DevOps magic.

The perfect candidate will be comfortable with technical Linux, networking and distributed architecture topics. The perfect candidate will have enthusiasm for digging deep and a flare for sharp technical communication, prioritization and organization.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years overall technical support or development experience
  • Minimum 2 years sustained experience as a manager of technical people
  • Advanced understanding of the Linux operating system
  • Solid networking knowledge
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
  • Experience in a 24/7 production environment
  • Physical requirements: Maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail during operations.
  • Must be able to work on-call, where you could be called in occasionally to work either remotely by phone or potentially on-site at night, weekends, or holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design and problem solving
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team
  • Strong customer focus, ownership, urgency and drive
  • A solid grasp of networking fundamentals
  • Systems Administration or Development in Linux/Unix environment.
  • Calm under fire as an oncall incident responder
  • Practical experience across the networking stack from load balancers down to TCP/IP.
  • Ability to dive deep into complex technical problems
  • Experience with version control like Git or Mercurial
  • Excellent problem solving skills with a strong attention to detail
This position requires that applicant selected be a U.S. citizen and obtain and maintain a TS/SCI US Government clearance with polygraph. TS/SCI eligibility is not required to start; however, the applicant selected will be subject to a Single-Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified national security information. Applicants with a current SSBI, SBPR, or PPR, may be eligible for crossover in accordance with ICPG 704.4.
