Do you like to delve inside the mind of the customer and create products that anticipate and guide interaction? Do you take pride in creating clean and concise user interfaces that engage and excite customers, maybe with a bit of whimsy?

ComiXology is seeking a results-driven “player / coach” – someone who can lead our UX and visual design team but also be an individual contributor. We’re looking for someone who can design across platforms, has a passion for usability, and can design elegant solutions to complex tasks.

What you’ll do:
  • Oversee UX, information architecture and visual design for mobile and web products
  • Manage, grow and mentor team of UX and visual designers
  • Spearhead a top to bottom UX and visual redesign of all products – from web to iOS to Android and beyond
  • Be the voice of UX and heavily influence design within the company – we want to learn from you
  • Hands-on design: Develop concepts, wireframes, and prototypes
  • Gather key insights into customer behavior to find their unmet & unspoken needs
  • Collaborate with Product Management to drive product strategy and the development roadmap
  • Create clean, straight-forward, innovative user interfaces
  • Be the user-advocate by subjecting early-stage designs to usability testing and offering implementation suggestions from a user-centered perspective
  • Evaluate and introduce a repeatable design process (ex: Lean UX)
  • Show off your tech savvy skills while collaborating with developers
  • Above all, have fun creating the next generation of digital comics

Basic Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of UX design for consumer facing products (web, responsive design, and native mobile)
  • Demonstrable UX & design leadership and people management experience
  • Expert in designing clean, intuitive and innovative interfaces
  • Knowledge of current UX best practices and design processes
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different audiences, including senior leadership
  • Experience driving field research and usability testing, and turning the output into data that can drive product design decisions
  • Solid experience with user-centric design (but know when to break the rules)
  • Excellent interpersonal, business management, and developmental skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or beat assigned targets and deadlines under normal circumstances, and ability to make trade-offs and when needed to optimize outcome when conditions change
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

*Submit a link to your portfolio with your application, let your work speak for itself!

Preferred Qualifications

Would be great but not required:

  • 2+ year in eCommerce design
  • BFA/MFA or equivalent industry experience
  • Comic book, manga, and/or graphic novel fan!

Why you want to work here:
You enjoy recommending design solutions and working in cross-functional teams to build the best possible product. We move fast and with passion. We are eager to work with people who understand that design is all about making it easy for the customer, making things beautiful, and making things work.
