Amazon Search CX team is looking for a passionate and innovative Senior SDE to help lead the technical vision for our Context Platform team.

The Search team designs and builds the most-used product search and browse experiences on the planet. Our team is made up of world-class Software Engineers, Designers, Data Scientists and Usability Researchers, working around the globe in a close-knit and highly collaborative environment. We build server-side and native applications and experiences across desktop, phone, tablet and devices. Using machine learning and natural language processing we recognize customer intent to provide the most relevant information and features that help customers make the best purchase decisions possible. We build and manage the global high-performance computing infrastructure that creates the search results, swarming together data from hundreds of services across Amazon, in real-time. Everything we do is global, iterative and data-driven. We run hundreds of experiments each year. A few examples of our projects include: new discovery features that help customers find products and content faster and more easily, click prediction algorithms to reduce page latency, mining big-data to predict likely purchase scenarios from queries, voice-based search, and visual browsing experiences that inspire and inform customers about the latest trends and styles.

As the a Senior SDE on the Context Platform team, you will help define, build, and deliver a Tier 1 system that powers the aggregation of "Context." You're system will describe what we know about the query (e.g. does it contain a brand?) and about the customer (e.g. are they a Prime member? do they prefer digital content over physical?). Knowing the answer to these types of questions is critical in being able to help customers find what they're looking for.

You should be an experienced engineering with expertise in large scale distributed systems and should have a proven ability to design and deliver in a rapidly changing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS degree or higher in CS with 10+ years of relevant, broad engineering experience required
  • Proven track record of leading the delivery of large-scale, high-quality systems focused on the platform and application layers of the technology stack
  • Demonstrated passion for customer experience and usability, including successful delivery of customer self-service tools and automated management/optimization of services, and a strong services orientation.
  • Deep hands-on technical expertise in at least one major technical area: large scale full stack development, building complex distributed systems, designing massive global networks
  • Experience managing complex projects, with significant bottom-line impact
  • Experience leading development life cycle process and best practices
  • Experience with Agile Management (SCRUM, RUP, XP), OO Modeling, working on internet, UNIX, Middleware, and database related projects
  • Experience mentoring/training the engineering community on complex technical issues
