Job Description

The AWS DDoS Response Team (DRT) is looking for a senior engineer to help define and lead the Think Big vision for Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) operations engineering.

As a Senior Systems Development Engineer for DRT, you will own software development projects that define how support engineers interact with AWS services to drive rapid resolution of high-severity events. You will work with thought leaders in the DDoS mitigation space to protect network, service, and customer availability and drive continuous improvement of key metrics. You will mentor other engineers, reinforce development best practices, and invent new solutions that solve complex business problems. Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or quantitative field, or related industry experience
  • 7+ years experience in at least one modern programming language such as Ruby, Java, C/C++, or Python.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrable expertise specifying, designing, or implementing health, performance monitoring, or management tools for 24/7 environments
  • Knowledge and experience with major Internet protocols; specifically BGP, TCP, and UDP
  • Knowledge of DDoS attacks and the best options for mitigation
  • Knowledge of AWS services commonly used to build web applications (eg. Amazon EC2, Elastic Load Balancing, Amazon CloudFront, or Amazon Route 53)
  • Experience operating a 24/7 Internet-oriented production environment, consisting of multiple data centers and involving at least hundreds of machines
